Najimy and Page take office as MTA leaders

Merrie Najimy, a Concord kindergarten teacher and former president of the Concord Teachers Association, took office on July 15 as president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. Max Page, a professor of architecture at UMass Amherst and former president of the Massachusetts Society of Professors, is the association’s new vice president.

They were elected to their respective leadership positions at the MTA’s Annual Meeting of Delegates on May 5. Najimy succeeds Barbara Madeloni, who was term-limited after serving two two-year terms. Page succeeds Erik J. Champy as vice president.

Each will serve a two-year term.

The MTA has more than 110,000 members working as teachers, administrators and education support professionals in preK-12 public schools and as faculty and staff and most of the state’s public colleges and universities. The MTA is the state affiliate of the National Education Association.
