Congressman Jim McGovern endorses Yes on 2
Standing with parents, teachers, and the high education standards of our state, Congressman McGovern released this statement:
“In Massachusetts, we believe that every student deserves a high quality education that sets them up for success – and the opportunity to demonstrate their true potential, regardless of whether or not they are good at standardized testing. That’s why I believe we need to move beyond the MCAS high school graduation requirement. As the brother of two public school teachers, I am proud to support Question 2. I stand with educators and students across the Commonwealth who believe in a more comprehensive approach to assessing student readiness.”
Rep. McGovern joins a diverse and rapidly growing coalition of supporters fighting to roll back the extreme emphasis that the MCAS graduation requirement places on ineffective and discriminatory high-stakes testing.
MTA President Max Page said he was honored to have McGovern's endorsement.
“Rep. McGovern is known for his work standing up for the wellbeing of our young people and fighting for an economy where all can thrive, so it’s no surprise he’s joining our effort to stop the harmful MCAS graduation requirement from robbing qualified students of their future. The MCAS graduation requirement gives too much power to a standardized test that can’t fully measure a student’s preparedness for success after graduation, and it undermines the high standards of our state. We’re honored to have Rep. McGovern’s support.”
