MTA Board: ‘Our Members Are Fighting for the Common Good’

“Malden and Haverhill are saying enough is enough.

The following statement was approved today, October 15, by the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Teachers Association:

The Haverhill Education Association and the Malden Education Association have been undergoing months and months of contentious contract negotiations with their respective districts. Yesterday, the HEA and MEA overwhelmingly voted to strike on Monday if they cannot get fair agreements. The Massachusetts Teachers Association’s Board of Directors stands in solidarity with the HEA and MEA for fair contracts.

In Malden and Haverhill, our members are fighting for the common good. When school committees fail to settle fair contracts, they disrespect not only educators, but also the students and the communities that depend on our public schools. Malden and Haverhill are saying enough is enough. We applaud the courage of our locals and our members to act and speak out to achieve what their students, educators and communities deserve.
