Tell the Legislature: Cancel MCAS this year and forever

It’s time for us to speak up again!
Cancel MCAS

Please send an Action Alert TODAY telling the Legislature to cancel MCAS this year and forever!

The Legislature is taking testimony on an MCAS moratorium until 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, and will be holding a hearing on S.2814, An Act responding to the COVID-19 emergency by instituting a moratorium of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System. The bill, sponsored by Senator Jo Comerford, would place a four-year moratorium on administration of the MCAS.

We urgently need you to send a letter now to the Education Committee chairs, Representative Alice Peisch and Senator Jason Lewis, telling them why the Legislature should pass Senate Bill 2814.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the new school year before it has even started. There is no way that educators, students and families should be preparing for the MCAS under these circumstances. We know there are better ways to judge the quality of our schools and measure students’ growth. S.2814 won’t just stop the MCAS for four years – it will create a process for replacing MCAS permanently and center the expertise of educators and families in determining how we assess our students.
