Educators across the country are speaking out and listening to students, colleagues and other community members during the Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Our Schools, which began today and continues through Feb. 9.
On Feb. 3, the MTA Board of Directors voted to endorse the Week of Action, which is devoted to bringing attention to the struggle for racial justice.
“This week gives educators a chance to join others throughout the nation in speaking out for students and communities of color — and against punitive testing regimes and the school-to-prison pipeline,” said MTA President Barbara Madeloni. “I urge all public educators to participate.”
She continued, “The MTA is committed to the well-being of students and their families and the struggle for racial and economic justice. We have an obligation to name injustice where we see it in order to bring about the schools and communities we all deserve.”
