Urge Your State Legislators to Support Public Higher Education

AN Take Action for PHE

Ask your state representative and senator to support using a reserve of $200 million in the supplemental budget from the Fair Share Amendment surplus to maintain the vital work at our public colleges and universities.

Take Action

Speak out for our public colleges and universities

Higher Ed Labor United, a coalition of higher education unions across the country, including the MTA, has called for a national Day of Action on April 8 to #KilltheCuts and defend higher education institutions and the communities they serve.  Across Massachusetts, MTA locals are planning actions to educate and engage members in the fights we face.

Here are some ways to get involved:

Uniting to Defend Public Higher Education Teach-InZoom, at 12 p.m.
There will be a 20 min Zoom teach-in focusing on higher ed attacks, how they are connected to our local issues, and what we can do to fight back. Some locals are hosting in-person “watch parties” with discussion to follow.

Ways and Means Committee Public Hearing, State House, Boston, 11 a.m.
These fights are bound up with the asks we are making of our own state elected leaders to address the needs and meet the challenges facing higher ed. We’re fighting for the Legislature to include a reserve fund that can be used to protect public higher education institutions from the impact of federal actions.

Kill the Cuts RallyJFK Federal Building, 15 Sudbury Street, Boston,  5 p.m.
Students, academic workers, educators and healthcare workers are coming together to demand an end to attacks on universities, educators, research and health care. No cuts to education and life-saving research, and hands off our universities.
