Statement on Trump's order to end DACA

DACA

“Trump's decision to end DACA is inhumane and unconscionable.”

MTA President Barbara Madeloni

MTA President Barbara Madeloni issued the following statement on President Trump's order to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program:

President Donald Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is inhumane and unconscionable. It jeopardizes the future of 800,000 “Dreamers” — the young DACA participants who were brought into this country by their parents before they were 16 years old, some of them as infants.

For Trump to threaten to deport them back to their native countries is cruel to the Dreamers and disruptive to our society. Such deportations would tear families apart and destabilize the schools, colleges, communities and workplaces where the Dreamers are living, studying and contributing to our society in countless ways.

Educators will do everything in our power to prevent the deportation of these Dreamers as a result of this president’s outrageous actions.

Educator Resources for DACA

The NEA has put together a list of good resources for educators in support of Dreamers.
