Senator Warren and union leaders to discuss vital public education issues

Join union leaders and your colleagues to hear what U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has to say about addressing the vital needs of students, educators and families as our public schools, colleges and universities prepare for the fall amid the coronavirus crisis. A Facebook Live event for educators, hosted by the senator, is set for 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. Along with Senator Warren, it will feature MTA President Merrie Najimy, American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts President Beth Kontos and Boston Teachers Union President Jessica Tang.

The three education unions have collaborated on a set of school restart proposals that are now being negotiated with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. As thousands of members have become part of our statewide campaign, the MTA, AFT Massachusetts and BTU are able to speak with a collective voice in letting the DESE know that the health and safety of Massachusetts students, educators and families will not be sacrificed in order to get back into our school buildings.

The unions are also working together with members across the state to address the many crucial issues that face students and staff throughout our public higher education system.

Our demands are based on a fundamental commitment: that caring for the health and welfare of everyone in our communities and on our campuses is our Commonwealth’s first obligation.
