The pressure to settle a new contract had been building for nearly two years by the time Dedham educators hit the streets on Friday, Oct. 25, in a strike that shut down the town’s public schools for a day and drove the School Committee and superintendent back to the bargaining table.

“We have not been able to meet with the superintendent or School Committee since Aug. 1 — and then Friday happened,” Dedham Education Association President Tim Dwyer told members when they met on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 28, for a contract ratification vote that followed picketing and a rally on Friday, a rally on Saturday, and marathon bargaining during two sessions over the weekend.
