MTA Today: A big step forward for funding initiative
MTA Today: A big step forward for funding initiative
The Fund Our Future campaign has won its first victory — but the struggle continues to pass legislation that would provide adequate and equitable funding for public schools and public higher education over the long term. In this edition you’ll find coverage of the campaign, including rallies that brought out thousands of education activists. Meanwhile, MTA members continued their activism all summer as they went door to door to engage colleagues and parents in conversations about education. Union activism and empowerment were also the themes of this year’s Summer Conference at UMass Amherst. You’ll also find a profile of Takeru Nagayoshi, an activist educator named the 2020 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, as well as stories about three outstanding educators who received MTA Human and Civil Rights Awards and a Sudbury ESP who is using lessons learned in the MTA ESP Leadership Program to step up for LGBTQ students.
