We love our public schools and colleges

Valentine's Day Action - Gardner Ed Association members

This Valentine’s Day, the MTA is joining with the Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance to show our love for schools and colleges and call on our elected leaders to #FundOurSchools.

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, and throughout the week, MTA members will be wearing red for public ed and “We ‘heart’ our public schools/colleges” stickers. The goal of the campaign — which will take place largely on social media — is to get out the message about the serious need for additional education funding.

State spending on higher education is down 40 percent from its peak in 2001, taking inflation and changes in enrollment into consideration. Our public schools are underfunded by more than $1 billion a year.

This is a great opportunity for educators to share what they love about their public school or college – and how their students would benefit from additional funding.

Parents, students and community members are encouraged to participate.

MTA members should contact their local president or field representative for stickers and signs.
