See You at the Rally for Public Education!

Greetings,

We are just 10 days out from the Rally for Public Education, which will start at 2 p.m. May 20 on Boston Common.

We are going to:

  • #RESIST attempts to silence educators, privatize public education, underfund our schools and colleges and punish and bully through the accountability system.
  • #INVEST in quality public schools and quality, debt-free public higher education, fully fund the Foundation Budget and pass the Fair Share Amendment.
  • #ENVISION and fight for the schools our communities deserve.

Spread the word in person or through social media. RSVP here, where you can also sign up for a free bus to and from the event.

Organize to Peacefully Protest Hate
Massachusetts supports freedom of speech, and we also stand strong for immigrant rights, anti-racism, LGBTQ rights and the respect and welcoming of all peoples and communities. An organizing event is being held tonight, May 10, to mobilize a peaceful demonstration in Boston on Saturday, May 13, to counter an attempt by right-wing hate groups to use the words "freedom of speech" while promulgating fear and threats that undermine our freedoms.

Join Union Sisters and Brothers as We Prepare for the Struggles Ahead

MA AFL-CIO Gompers-Murray-Meany Annual Educational Conference, May 24-26
We need to work closely with our sisters and brothers in labor to defend the rights of employees. Come to the Gompers Conference in Falmouth, learn new strategies, share your knowledge and experiences, and build solidarity for the future.

Organizing Update: When We Fight, We Win
A few weeks back, I joined members at a Worcester school as they talked through their experiences in the school, which for some meant feeling targeted and bullied by a principal. From this meeting a large group of educators joined to tell their stories to the superintendent and demand action. And now they have heard that the principal will not be at the school next year. Organize. Link arms. Fight back.

Telephone Town Hall Tonight!
I want to talk about why we are holding a Rally for Public Education on May 20 and hear what your priorities are for your union during a Telephone Town Hall. It will begin at 7 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, May 10. If your phone rings at that time, please pick it up to participate. You can also call in directly:

  • Call-in number: 855.756.7520
  • Conference number (when prompted): 35339#

In solidarity,

Barbara
