Educators Unite!

So much is coming to a head this week. Time to fight back!

GIC Benefits Under Attack: Fight Back!
Within two hours of sending out our GIC action alert about proposed plan design changes yesterday, more than 1,100 MTA members had contacted members of the commission. The commissioners' e-mail systems are being swamped. Keep the messages coming!

Wear Stickers and Speak Out on January 19: Fight Back!
Please wear a "Speak Out" sticker on January 19 to show your support for the schools our communities deserve. The visibility is meant to inspire conversations not just about what our schools are lacking, but also about what our schools would look like if our students received everything they and our communities deserve. We will be promoting these conversations for the next several months. Local presidents can obtain stickers from their MTA field representatives.

Attend a Rally on January 21: Fight Back!
Don't like what you are hearing about Betsy DeVos and the rest of the incoming administration's agenda? Speak up at one of the historic women's marches (men and children are also welcome) on Saturday. There will be a contingent of MTA members walking behind our banner in the Boston march. Go here if you want to come to MTA's Quincy headquarters first to make signs, or meet us at the corner of Boylston and Arlington streets any time between 10 a.m. and noon. Among other activities, there will be speakers and performers beginning at 11 a.m. The march will be from noon to 2 p.m. through the Back Bay. Go here for links to information about events in Washington, D.C., Pittsfield and Greenfield.

Oppose DESE's DDM Plan: Fight Back!
At a time when we are calling for less testing and more learning, the state is planning to increase the weight that student test scores are given in the educator evaluation system. Go here before January 27 to tell state education officials what you think of this idea.

In solidarity,
