Race Amity scholarships available
For the past four years, the National Center for Race Amity at Wheelock College has collaborated with the MTA to address the challenging issue of racial bigotry and prejudice in society.
The annual National Race Amity Conference will be held Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Norwood. The conference provides resources for teachers to gain the skills and insights that help them address the complex issue of race.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Celebrating Women in the Other Tradition.” The conference will also feature the interactive courtroom drama “Defamation,” by Todd Logan.
Participants may earn 10 professional development points through Wheelock College.
Scholarships sponsored by the MTA and the National Center for Race Amity will cover much of the conference registration fee for up to 25 MTA members. Hotel and transportation charges are the responsibility of the participant.
The deadline for registration is Friday, Sept. 12.
The scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with preference given to members who have not received funding for this conference in the past.
Participants must be present for the entire education program, and they must complete and submit a participation verification form at the conclusion of the conference in order to receive PDPs.
An end-of-course learning assessment must also be completed.
Interested MTA members should e-mail Jessica Parlon, firstname.lastname@example.org, in the Division of Training and Professional Learning, for the MTA Scholarship registration code.
