Danvers tragedy brings deep sadness
The following statement was issued by MTA President Paul Toner on October 23 concerning the slaying of Danvers teacher Colleen Ritzer.
Educators across Massachusetts are deeply saddened by the loss of beloved Danvers math teacher Colleen Ritzer. Colleen was widely respected in her school and her town, and her death is a tragedy. Our hearts go out to Colleen’s family, to her students, and to her school community. Our thoughts are with all of her fellow educators across Massachusetts and the nation.
Both the Massachusetts Teachers Association and our colleagues at the National Education Association are closely monitoring this terrible situation. As we grieve for Colleen, we are doing everything we can to support students, fellow educators and parents.
