Senator Kerry introduces Social Security Offset legislation in Senate

Just prior to congressional adjournment, Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced The Social Security Fairness Act (S. 2010), which is the companion to the House version (H.R. 1332) introduced earlier last year by Representatives McKeon (R-CA) and Berman (D-CA).

The MTA and the NEA are strong supporters of the Social Security Fairness Act which seeks to repeal the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision.

The Social Security Fairness Act of 2011 (H 1332) to repeal the Social Security offsets was reintroduced in the House of Representatives in early April by Representatives Howard McKeon (R-CA) and Harold Berman (D-CA).

The following members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation are currently cosponsors of H 1332: Mike Capuano, Barney Frank, William Keating, Stephen Lynch, James McGovern, John Olver, John Tierney and Niki Tsongas. The total number of cosponsors of the bill is 134.

Updates on these efforts will continue to be posted at www.massteacher.org and will also be sent to members of the MTA Social Security Elert system. Additional information can be found at www.nea.org/home/16491.htm.
