MTA President Paul Toner welcomes Malone appointment

MTA President Paul Toner issued the following statement on December 13 after Governor Deval Patrick appointed outgoing Brockton School Superintendent Matthew Malone as Massachusetts secretary of education to replace Paul Reville, who is leaving the administration:

We congratulate Matt Malone on his appointment and look forward to a productive and collaborative relationship during his time as secretary of education.

Matt has public education in his bones, and he understands the needs of our students. In addition to a strong leadership background, he brings a wealth of firsthand classroom experience to his new position.

As an urban superintendent, he truly understands the issues we face – helping all students succeed, narrowing the achievement gap, helping our communities overcome the problems related to poverty, and creating opportunities for every child.

Paul Reville leaves knowing he has made a difference for our students, our schools, and our communities. He has kept his door open, and we have learned a lot from one another. We wish him only the best in his future endeavors.
