Please contact your U.S. representative and senators and urge them not to slash spending on public education and health care and to enact fair tax policies as part of the plan to reduce the federal budget deficit.
Congress should reject a proposed balanced budget constitutional amendment, a plan that would lead to drastic cuts in services and would plunge the country back into a deep recession. In addition, Congress should approve raising the debt ceiling in order to prevent a disastrous meltdown of the U.S. economy.
The deficit should be reduced over time with a judicious combination of spending cuts and tax increases. In considering which taxes to raise, Congress should eliminate tax loopholes for the wealthy and for corporate special interests and should reject raising taxes on the middle class by taxing health care benefits.
