MTA Boston Red Sox Most Valuable Educator season is in full swing
The MTA Boston Red Sox Most Valuable Educator program is expanding this season.
The program, which has saluted outstanding teachers and education support professionals in grades nine through 12 for the past several years, is now open to educators in all grades. In addition, the field of potential honorees has been widened to include a variety of people who work or volunteer in Massachusetts public schools.
An MVE nominee can be a teacher, an ESP, a library media specialist, a counselor, a social worker, a coach, a school nurse or anyone else who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to promote student achievement. A potential MVE can be suggested for teaching a unique lesson, managing a noteworthy after-school program, coordinating a special event or doing virtually anything else that has a positive impact on students.
Nominations should be submitted directly to the Red Sox. Each must be accompanied by an essay of 400 words or less detailing how the nominee helps establish a positive educational climate and develop a love of learning among students.
Those selected as MVEs will have the chance to go out onto the baseball field at Fenway Park to be greeted by the fans, while the people who send in winning essays will receive tickets to a game.
“Everyone who works in our schools welcomes a round of applause now and then, but this honor is really special,” said MTA President Paul Toner.
“The educators who are selected for this award will get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to have the crowd at Fenway Park cheer for them and their hard work, and that is something they will never forget.
“Recognition programs such as this one are great because they give the people who dedicate their lives to Massachusetts students a renewed sense of pride,” Toner added.
