Governor vetoes state health insurance budget item

Gov. Romney has vetoed the section of the FY07 state budget that deals with state employee group health insurance. Specifically, he has vetoed the section that would maintain the health insurance premiums at 85/15 for state employees hired prior to June 30, 2003, and at 80/20 for state employees hired after that date.
The net effect of this veto will force state employees to pay 25 percent for their group health insurance premiums.
MTA is working with other labor unions to have this veto overridden.
Please contact your state legislators and urge them to override this veto so state employees are not forced to assume an enormous increase in the cost of their health insurance.
