Voc-ed creditable service bill gets favorable report

At its meeting on April 14, 2005, the Legislature's Public Service Committee voted to report the Voc-ed Creditable Service Bill (SB1555) with a favorable recommendation.  The bill will now be referred to the Senate Committee on Ways and Means for its consideration.  Last year, Senate Ways and Means reported this bill favorably, so we are optimistic that progress will continue to be made.

MTA, MFT, MVA and MAVA representatives testified in favor of the bill.

Please e-mail or call the co-chairs of the Public Service Committee to thank them for their quick action on this bill.  They are:

Rep. Jay Kaufman (House Chair)

Sen. Stephen Buoniconti (Senate Chair)

They can be reached by calling the House switchboard at 617-722-2000 (Ask to be transferred.) or by letter to:  State House, Boston, MA 02133.

The next step is for voc-ed members to contact their own state senators requesting them to lobby the Chair of Senate Ways and Means (Sen. Therese Murray) to report the bill favorably to the Senate floor for consideration.  Ask your senator to keep you updated on the bill's progress.

Once the bill passes the Senate we will be asking you to direct your efforts on the House members.

Updates will be posted on this Web site.
