About the Teacher Leadership Institute

Who: Through the Teacher Leadership Institute, the National Education Association is partnering with the Center for Teaching Quality and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to support 300 teachers across 14 sites in advancing leaders in the profession. The TLI is designed for teachers who want to play a more consequential role in shaping the policies and practices that govern teaching and learning in the United States.

What: In the coming months, 300 teachers from across the country will be selected to participate in our comprehensive leadership training institute in participating affiliates. Participants will:
• Take part in a competency-based curriculum
• Apply experience through a self-selected capstone project
• Engage deeply in local and national collaboration
• Receive extensive coaching and support
• Complete an evidence-based portfolio with “micro-credentials” that reflect leadership growth to add to your resume

When, Where and How: Learning will take place primarily through webinars and videoconferences, with much of the work self-paced. You need not be a tech expert to participate; however, a basic comfort level with technology and willingness to learn are essential. A minimum of three face-to-face meetings will be scheduled between March and December 2017. These sessions will not be traditional “sit-and-get” workshops.

Why: Through the TLI, you will hone your expertise and engage in leadership work in schools, state houses and associations throughout the country. The TLI prepares you to serve as a leader of the profession with the knowledge, skills and core values to meet new demands as a 21st-century teaching professional.

  • Stipend: $300+
  • PDPs: 67.5
  • Micro-credentials to add to one's resume and more!

The first Face-to-Face meeting will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Hampton Inn in Natick from 10am to 4pm. (Continental breakfast and lunch included, as well as reimbursement for mileage and tolls)
