 MTA Today

Christine Boseman of the Classified Staff Union at UMass Boston and Bernadette Marso of the Leominster Education Association were front and center during the MTA-led Rally for a Better Commonwealth, which was held in Boston’s Copley Square on May 14 following the Annual Meeting of Delegates. A crowd of roughly 300 educators, fellow union members and supporters gathered for the event, which included a call to raise revenues to help keep Massachusetts a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Meanwhile, MTA members in central and western Massachusetts have been playing lead roles in helping their students and their communities in the aftermath of the tornadoes that struck the state on June 1.

Two Springfield elementary schools, Brookings and Dryden, were closed by the June 1 tornado and finished the school year in other buildings. MTA visited with teachers from the Brookings School. Watch their stories here.

MTA ESP of the Year Jean Fay delivered a real stem-winder of a speech at the Rally for the Better Commonwealth featured on this issue's cover. Listen to Fay's remarks.
