New Member Program at Summer Conference
Who should attend?
Educators/MTA members in their first five years of practice.
How much does it cost?
Nothing! This program is fully funded by MTA.
Why spend five days in the beautiful Berkshires?
You'll meet great people. You'll have a lot of fun. You'll master the maze of rules, responsibilities and demands placed on K-12 public school educators.
What is the program about?
The Rules in Education
Who determines licensure rules, MCAS standards, whether your school is underperforming, the length of the school day and year, and much, much more.
School and District Conditions
Salaries and working conditions, evaluations and PTS (Professional Teacher Status), and the role of the local association.
Facing the Challenges
Everything from daily survival to relationships with students, colleagues and administrators to 2009 budget cuts and layoffs.
Will you be able to get other nagging questions answered on subjects such as licensure?
What is the program not about?
The program does not address curriculum and instruction or classroom teaching strategies.
Who runs the program?
Members of MTA's New Member Committee; all are alumni of the program.
