ESP health insurance bill is signed into law

Good news! The governor has signed HB 4654, an MTA bill that ensures continuing health insurance coverage for paraprofessionals during July and August.

The bill is now Chapter 90 of the Acts of 2006. And because it contained an emergency preamble, it took effect as of May 19.

On May 18, both the House and Senate voted for final passage of HB 4654. The measure prevents school districts from refusing to pay the public employer's premium share for paraprofessional health insurance coverage during July and August.

Roll calls in both branches were unanimous, making the provisions of HB 4654 effective immediately upon the governor's approval or a legislative override of any veto, had the governor chosen that option.
