Charter school hearings scheduled
The Dept. of Education will hold public hearings at four locations around the state to gather comment on five separate charter school proposals.
Comments from the public will be among the factors considered in February when the Board of Education votes on the five charter school proposals, accoring to the DOE.
The proposed charters are:
Fall River Maritime Charter Public School, serving grades 5-8 in Fall River. Enrollment at full capacity: 80
Hampden Regional Charter School, serving students in grades K-8 from Chicopee, Springfield and West Springfield. Enrollment at full capacity: 704
Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School of Excellence, serving grades K-5 in Springfield. Enrollment at full capacity: 360
Phoenix Charter Academy, an ungraded high school serving students from Chelsea, Revere and Lynn. Enrollment at full capacity: 225
Worcester Regional Charter School, serving students in
grades K-8 from Worcester, Auburn and Leicester. Enrollment at full capacity: 680
The public hearings will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the following locations:
Thursday, Jan. 13: Quinsigamond Community College, 670 Boylston St., Worcester
Tuesday, Jan. 18: Springfield Public Library, 220 State St., Springfield
Wednesday, Jan. 19: Fall River Public Library, 104 N. Main St., Fall River
Thursday, Jan. 20: Massachusetts Department of Education, 350 Main St., Malden
